The entertainment industry has traditionally been run by a disconnected, and some might say dysfunctional, network of entitiies – all of whom typically reside in Hollywood.  Also typical of these entities is a lack of new media savvy, coupled with an institutional reluctance to promote activities which don’t generate fast, easy money. 

Whether intentional or unintentional, this  reluctance to adapt to new market demands and technology has given rise to an industry lacking any coordinated function designed with new talent development in mind.  Users and new entrants to the system are left to fend for themselves, hoping they might be lucky enough to meet the right person on the right day, or better yet get to know the brother of a local agent.  Inherently, this disconnected system discourages non-Hollywood talent from emerging or being recognized while inversely encouraging the recent, and rampant, “runaway” production syndrome which has been punctuated by state and local government fueled incentives to filming outside of Hollywood.
